CAA in Your Community
CAA is a federation of nine clubs, serving almost 5 million members across Canada and around the world. We recognize how important the environment is to our members, which is why many Clubs offer a variety of programs and resources to help motorists and Canadians continue to live environmentally friendly lives.
Please take a moment to read about some of the programs and activities CAA Clubs offer. If you do not find one in your local area, there are also publications below which may help you reduce your energy consumption.
We encourage you to get involved!

Publications
Offering tips to save fuel and reduce your energy consumption at home.
Distribute materials like Use Less Save More; a booklet that provides practical information for consumers to use less fuel and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
CAA Clubs are also active in their local communities; they support a number of environmentally friendly initiatives in cities and towns across the country. At the provincial level, CAA Clubs lobby in favour of public policy that protects our environment as well as participating in municipal, regional and provincial programs and initiatives whose goal is to protect our environment. The following are just a few examples of how CAA Clubs are actively engaged in protecting and preserving our environment.
- Many CAA Clubs drive around in hybrid vehicles! Several Clubs have purchased hybrid vehicles for their fleets.
- CAA Québec holds a position on the provincial issue table on highway vehicles and the environment and is a member of the provincial issue table on used motor oil disposal. They also collaborate with Protégez-Vous, the Consumer Protection Office’s official magazine to warn consumers about areas they can save fuel and participate in the Montréal National Home Show to promote efficient water use at home
- CAA South Central Ontario is a strong supporter of adding High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes to 400-series highways and worked with the provincial government to put the first lanes in operation on Highways 403 and 404. As well, the club is using and promoting the Smart Commute program as a way for businesses to offer employees transportation options other than single-occupancy vehicle commutes, such as car-pooling, telecommute options and discounted transit passes. CAA South Central Ontario is also striving to increase investment in intelligent signal-lights. This technology automatically adjusts lights to match traffic flow in real-time as a way of reducing unnecessary vehicle emissions caused by congestion.
- CAA Niagara invests in solar energy! They have sponsored a solar-powered car, made by local high school students, which competes at high school events across Ontario.
- The Alberta Motor Association is the lead partner in an initiative called SchoolPool, which aims to cut down on the use of personal vehicles for transporting children to school.
