eSafety Event

Welcome to the CAA eSafety sub-section. Here you can learn about five innovative electronic vehicle safety technologies that can reduce vehicle collisions and save lives.

CAA eSafety Event

To raise awareness about five eSafety technologies, CAA teamed up with the FIA Foundation and Transport Canada to hold an eSafety Demonstration Event at Transport Canada’s test facility in Blainville, Quebec on June 10, 2010.

The event featured Formula One race car driver Michael Schumacher, Canadian racing legend Jacques Villeneuve, and other professional drivers from CAA Québec demonstrating several eSafety technologies to the media and special guests.

What is eSafety?

eSafety refers to electronic vehicle safety technologies that can assist a driver by providing vital information, warnings, or navigational assistance to reduce the likelihood of an emergency situation.

Several eSafety technologies are on the market and are increasingly expected to provide a major contribution to the reduction of fatalities and injuries on Canadian roads. These technologies include: electronic stability control (ESC), blind spot monitoring, lane support systems, and, warning and emergency braking systems. Another technology, speed alert, isn’t available in Canada yet, but is expected soon.

Why is CAA Involved?

As one of Canada’s leading road safety advocates, CAA is committed to keeping Canada’s roads safe. eSafety technologies offer the potential the reduce the number of collisions, injuries, and fatalities on Canadian roads and CAA encourages consumers to consider these technologies when purchasing a vehicle. CAA also believes that eSafety technology in tandem with good driving habits can go a long way to making Canada’s roads safer.
