Camping Cards
CAA Members
The Canadian Automobile Association is a member of the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT).
The Canadian Automobile Association is authorized by AIT to issue its Camping Card to CAA members, and to members of clubs affiliated with AIT, Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), or the Fédération Internationale de Camping et de Caravanning (FICC).
What is a Camping Card International?
The International Camping Card (CCI) is an identity card which provides access to organized campgrounds, controlled by clubs that belong to the AIT, FIA, and the FICC. It is valid for a total of 12 months from date of issue.
Where is the CCI Valid?
The CCI may be used in many European and Scandinavian countries, at campgrounds owned or operated by automobile or touring associations affiliated with AIT, FIA, and FICC. Many private camp operators accept the CCI.
Where do I find such campsites?
The CCI Information Guide accompanies each Card issued. The full colour booklet is packed with a wealth of information. It includes campsite listings where the CCI can be used, camping tips and general information.
Advantages of using the CCI
The CCI guarantees the payment of campground fees. Some camp proprietors may accept it in lieu of a deposit of fees, to be retained until the camper leaves, and the camping fees are paid.
Its other advantages include discounts on campsite fees, reservation priority, and the possibility of being granted permission to camp in state forests.
*Insurance coverage
Each CCI issued by CAA includes third party insurance coverage.
The "insured party" is defined as any member of the club or association affiliated to the AIT who is holding a valid Camping Card International. Coverage also includes any member of the insured's family, normally forming part of the household, or any person travelling in the same private vehicle.
A summary of the insurance coverage, the conditions of issue and the camper’s code is given with each card issued, along with the CCI Information guide.
*The CCI and insurance coverage is not valid for use in either Canada or the United States.
How to obtain one
You can obtain an application by visiting your local CAA, have an application mailed to you, or by printing the application (see below).
To qualify for a CCI you must submit a signed application form and:
- be over 16 years of age
- have a valid CAA membership
- pay the fee of $15.75, (this includes the GST, as well as the cost of the premium for the third party insurance policy that covers each CCI)
When mailing your application, the fee, must be in the form of a bank draft, money order or cheque **in Canadian funds drawn on a Canadian bank and made payable to the Canadian Automobile Association. If you wish to pay by credit card, please include your Visa or MasterCard number and the expiry date of the card. One to three weeks should be allowed for the CCI to reach you by mail.
**The Alberta Motor Association no longer accepts cheques from non-members.
A CCI cannot be post dated, extended or renewed. It is valid for one year from date of issue, and can be discarded when it expires. Each time a new CCI is required, the applicant must complete a new application form, produce a valid CAA membership, a copy of the photo page of the Passport and the fee.
The CCI and Information Guide are an outstanding value for those planning a camping trip in Europe or Scandinavia.
