Around 7,500 cyclists are seriously injured every year.
What time of day do most bicycle injuries and crashes occur?
Most bicycle injuries and crashes occur during the afternoon rush hour.
What time of day do most cyclist deaths occur?
One out of 3 cyclist deaths occur at night or where there’s artificial lighting.
Where are cyclists more likely to be killed or injured?
Cyclists are more likely to be killed or injured at an intersection or at a location where there are traffic signals or other traffic control signs.

Percentage of cyclists killed in traffic crashes who were under the age of 16:
18% of cyclists killed in traffic crashes were under the age of 16.
Percentage of cyclists killed who were struck by a vehicle in the dark:
34% of cyclists who were killed were struck by a vehicle in the dark.
Percentage of cyclists killed who were struck by a heavy truck:
19% of cyclists who were killed were struck by a heavy truck.
Percentage of cyclist deaths from traffic crashes that occurred on city roads:
64% of cyclist deaths from traffic crashes occurred on city roads (those with a speed limit up to 70 km/h). The remainder occurred on rural roads (with a speed limit 80km/h or higher).
