26 October 12 (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON) – The Canadian Automobile Association is pleased to announce the winner of the third annual CAA Road Safety Journalism Award, presented last night during the awards banquet of the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada.

Jil McIntosh won for her article on how to optimize the benefits and minimize the possible dangers of a very common yet not well understood safety feature, the airbag. Judges found the article, “Safety in the Front Seat: Let Airbags Help You, Not Hurt You”, combined research, excellent examples and good writing into a compelling story that not only discusses the issue but leaves readers with practical tips as well. Jil is a previous recipient of the CAA Road Safety Journalism Award.

“This article is a great example of providing Canadians with all the information they need to make safe decisions on the road, something that CAA also works hard to do,” said Tim Shearman, CAA President. “We’re pleased that our sponsorship of this award allows us to highlight the good work being done by automotive journalists to inform and educate the public about road safety.”

Nadine Filion was also presented with an honorary certificate for her article “When a loved one shouldn’t drive anymore”. Judges said the article used anecdotes and facts to make readers think about an important topic while effortlessly informing them.

CAA is a federation of nine Clubs providing more than 5.6 million Members with exceptional emergency roadside service, complete automotive and travel services, member savings and comprehensive insurance services. CAA also advocates on issues of concern to its Members, including road safety, the environment, mobility, infrastructure and consumer protection.
