CAA recognizes top road safety journalist of 2018

November 2, 2018

AJAX, ON – The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) is pleased to present the 2018 CAA Road Safety Journalism Award to long-time automotive journalist, Kelly Taylor.

The award, now in its seventh year, draws attention to the importance of public service journalism on road safety, and highlights the work being done in the field.

Taylor won the award this year for his article ‘Driving in the Dark’. The article explored the move to update vehicle-lighting regulations that require all new cars sold in Canada by 2021 to feature automatic illumination of all relevant lights, including tail lights, in low light conditions.

“Kelly’s story helps the average road user understand the importance of automatic lights and how they will make our roads safer and save lives,” said Ian Jack, managing director of communications and government relations with CAA National.

Dale Johnson received an honorable mention for his article on ‘How technology is making semi-trailer trucks safer’.  Johnson’s article examined how driver assist technologies, such as lane departure warnings, adaptive cruise control, rear-view cameras and collision avoidance, are becoming popular in semi-trailer trucks keeping more people safe on the roads.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 awards, which were held on Thursday, October 25 at the Ajax Convention Centre in Ajax Ontario.
