OTTAWA, ON – The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) and the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) announced today the release of a community-based toolkit designed to help communities plan and execute road safety campaigns tailored to local issues.
The Community-based Toolkit for Road Safety Campaigns contains issue-specific information and tips related to campaign effectiveness, stakeholder engagement, campaign development, messaging, branding, social media, and evaluation. Additionally, the toolkit contains TIRF road safety campaign research and real-world examples of campaigns to help guide community groups.
“TIRF and CAA saw a real need to support community groups that want to make a difference but just may not have the time or resources to know how,” said Jeff Walker, CAA vice president of public affairs. “Through this research we can empower communities to create road safety campaigns that make a positive impact.”
TIRF worked with the Safer Roads Ottawa program to develop its local road safety campaign, then used the knowledge and information gained through the collaboration, including community feedback, to produce the national product.
TIRF plans to release an expanded version of the toolkit in 2016, which will include additional factsheets on a range of other road safety issues.
CAA is a federation of nine Clubs providing more than 6 million Members with exceptional emergency roadside service, complete automotive and travel services, member savings and comprehensive insurance services. CAA also advocates on issues of concern to its Members, including road safety, the environment, mobility, infrastructure and consumer protection.
TIRF is the Canadian source for international research related to the human causes and effects of road crashes, providing objective and scientific information to support the development, implementation and evaluation of road safety programs, effective advocacy and consultation.
