OTTAWA – The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) today released a new guide to the top green vehicles on the road in North America, from compact to pickup trucks.
The guide, which was produced by the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Automotive Research Center, ranked vehicles using a 13-point evaluation system. Based on information in the 2016 guide, the 2016 Honda Civic Touring took the number one spot in the category of inexpensive vehicles; the 2014 BMW i3 was the top mid-range vehicle; and finally the 2015 Tesla Model S70D was the top luxury vehicle.
“AAA’s Green Car Guide is a good reminder that drivers have a variety of environmentally-friendly options available, in all budget ranges, that can help them both save money and the environment,” says Jeff Walker, Vice-President of Public Affairs for CAA National.
The guide lists 81 vehicles in all vehicle categories, showing that anyone can reduce their fuel use by driving with fuel economy in mind. In fact, drivers can save up to 20 per cent on fuel by following a few simple eco-driving tips.
CAA has long advocated for environmentally friendly driving technologies and practices, and has built several tools to educate the driving public on electric and hybrid vehicles. Consumers can find information on electric and hybrid vehicles available in Canada on CAA’s Electric Vehicle Portal, including Canada’s most comprehensive EV charging map.
