OTTAWA, ON – The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) is pleased to present the 2020 CAA Road Safety Journalism Award to Justin Pritchard for an article exploring the important role good headlights can play.

The award, now in its ninth year, draws attention to the importance of public service journalism on road safety, and highlights the work being done in the field.

In Pritchard’s winning article, ‘You don’t have to spend a lot to get good headlights’, he uses his experience as a regular night-time driver, and extensive research, to help guide drivers through rating headlights and how they can improve vehicle safety.

“As Pritchard says, rarely do we test drive vehicles at night, yet headlights play an important part in keeping us safe and they’re not all equally good,” said Ian Jack, vice president, public affairs, CAA National. “This well-written, easy-to-understand article will give vehicle buyers the information they need to ensure their headlights will contribute to keeping them safe at night.”

The awards were presented October 27 at the annual meeting of the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada, which took place digitally this year. The winner was determined by a panel of judges: Courtney McGillion of the British Columbia Nurses’ Union, Natalie Melanson-Breau, professor at the University of Moncton, and Kristine D’Arbelles of CAA National.
